Snowshoeing - Malga Cere - Description

A not-to-be-missed itinerary from Calamento valley to Malga Cere on an easy and charming path.
The whole itinerary is on a forest road, that through light curves and wide hairpin turns, leads to Malga Cere; the view from up there is just breathtaking since the hut is located right under the Monte Setole, on a vantage point on the underlying valley and on the Cima 12 mountain chain.

There is the possibility to shorten the tour through a shortcut that leads directly to the hut (with little snow this route could be hard for not specialists).
The slope isn’t very hard and therefore good for everyone, and for the most trained ones there is the possibility to extend the tour up until Malga Valpiana and Cima Setole.
Malga Cere offers the possibility to stop for a yummy break or a lunch with local products while enjoying the view. The malga also organizes events and activities, and of course has rooms for overnight stays.

Directions

  • Start

    Parking lot in Calamento valley

The parking lot is a square normally used for wood storage and it is about 1 km after the Hotel Aurai.
Park the car here and wear your snowshoes already on the first little climb, before the first hairpin turn, the road then keeps climbing constantly. At one point, the tracks crosses a river coming down from the Ziolera valley. After a few meters, you can dedice either to take a shortcut on a path from the left side or keep going on the normal path. Please consider the the path is quite steep and ice can be present.
We recommend therefore to go on on the longest path, which is actually safer. Walking on this path you will reach the fields of Malga Cere and find an unique view.
To return to the parking lot, you can walk on the same route.
