Start
Albiano
From the sports centre of Albiano, the route climbs along a little frequented tarmac road towards Lake Santa Colomba. You pass a place called 'Spiazzi', a children's playground and a fountain. The road stops climbing and crosses a porphyry quarrying site before reaching a place called 'Pra Nardot' where it joins the road to Lake Santa Colomba. Follow the signs for 'Mongalina' and carry on along a pleasant forest road that enters a wood. After passing the nice meadows of Mongalina, you reach a crossroads. Follow the signs for Lake Santa Colomba (trail No. 421). After a slight incline, the path climbs in earnest and finally opens out into the basin of the lake. Refreshments are available at the lakeside restaurant. Carry on along trail No. 421, which skirts Doss dei Brusadi (if you want to make a detour to the Doss, just follow the signage) before reaching Pian del Gacc. At a place called 'La Malga', ignore the tarmac road to Pian del Gacc and instead, take a gently climbing dirt road in the direction of Montepiano. Here you can follow the 'Sentiero degli Gnomi' (Gnomes' Path), a route dotted with wooden sculptures which tell stories about the wood … to those who know how to listen. Once you resume the main route, you soon reach a place called 'Pra della Casara'. From there, follow the signs for 'Pian del Gacc/Sentiero Montepiano e Gnomi' (trail No. 16). The path undulates across the wood. After a crossroads, you soon reach the tarmac road just outside Pian del Gacc (where refreshments are available). From Pian del Gacc, follow the signage for Albiano: a pleasant, mostly downhill path takes you back to the village and the starting point. -

required equipment
Even on relatively short easy outings make sure to take all you need so you don't run into trouble if things take an unexpected turn, for example a storm blows up or you have a sudden drop in energy levels.
