Trek to Rifugio Nambrone – Amola waterfall - Description

This walk to Rifugio Nambrone takes place on the forest road leading to the ‘Acqua Surgiva’ spring and along the ‘AmolAcqua’ theme walk. The route of the latter snakes its way through a maze of rivulets that criss-cross the lower Val Nambrone, i.e. the area at the confluence between two branches of the Sarca River: Sarca d'Amola and Sarca di Nambrone. The highlight of the walk is the crossing of the beautiful Amola waterfall, which achieves its highest drop in the forest near Rifugio Nambrone. This

Directions

  • Start

Ponte di Pimont (938 m/3,077 ft.)

From the car park (938 m), head uphill on the forest road that runs along the right bank (as seen going downstream) of the Sarca River. The inclines are moderate to begin with, making the going rather easy.
The road passes the ‘Acqua Surgiva’ spring (altitude 1100 m) situated in a meadow on the right. The forest road continues to climb and soon divides (spot height 1166 m).
Bear left and proceed along the forest road which now begins to climb in earnest, especially during a very steep, though perfectly walkable 800-m stretch.
The path reaches a few typical houses with a fountain (drinking water) on the left and a nice view of the Vallon, a sub-range of the Dolomiti di Brenta .
Just after the houses, the forest road becomes flat and heads for the Sarca River.
It soon reaches a green clearing where the path starts. Follow the signs for ‘Rifugio Nambrone’ (trail B03), ignoring a fork on the left for the Amola waterfall. Follow the track over a few footbridges as it snakes its way across the many rivulets that criss-cross the area. The scenery is lovely. Various tables and benches beckon: why not have a rest?
The path now arrives at the last footbridge. We advise you to bear left, i.e. to follow the signs for ‘Cascata Amola’ (trail B03). You soon reach the waterfall. Some of its spray even sprinkles the footbridge just in front. After retracing your steps along trail B03, cross the bridge and proceed to the nearby Rifugio Nambrone (1355 m).
Return: either on foot by the same route or by car (provided you’ve arranged for someone to pick you up) down the Val Nambrone road.

Tips for the tour

Rifugio Nambrone (1355 m) is situated at the bottom of Val Nambrone on the left margin of the plain of the same name. It can be reached by car from Pinzolo by following the SS239 in the direction of Madonna di Campiglio (bear left just below S. Antonio di Mavignola   and follow the signs for Rifugio Nambrone, Cornisello, Segantini). You can arrange for someone to drop you off at the starting place in Ponte di Pimont (it’s on the road) and to pick you up at Rifugio Nambrone. Whoever is acting as chauffeur can for instance go on the easy ‘AmolAcqua’ walk or enjoy a rest on the deck chairs while waiting.
