Trekking to Monte Rujoch - Description

A must for the "wild trekking" lovers with a "ride" on border crest between Pinè Plateau and Mòcheni Valley.
Rujoch is a top with an unmistakable shape, an infinite dorsal that makes a large semicircle. To fully enjoy the slope, it is recommended the proposed ring tour. As a rugged mountain and out of mass tourism, it is the kingdom of many wild animals that live in high mountain; equipped with a camera you have high chances to catch some of them.

Directions

  • Start

    Stramaiolo hut - Bedollo

From the starting point (see the section "getting there") continue on the paved road that conduce to Stramaiolo hut, then on the white road in "Malga Stramaiolo Alta" direction; from here starts a good path (n° 462) that leads to Polpen Pass through larch woods, rhododendron and rowans. Going on along the path we climb the long ridge at the bourder between Pinè Plateau and Mocheni Valley; after the climb, a few stops are highly recommended to replenish lost energy and to take some pictures.
We reach a little top called "l'Uomo Vecchio" ("The old man") with the caracteristic little men of stones that distinguish it; from here the path continues always well marked but a bit harsher on stony ground untill the metallic cross of the slender peak of the Rujoch (2413mt), which offers a panoramic view at 360 degrees, from Brenta group to that of Ortles-Cevedale, from the tops the Mocheni Valley to the Cima d'Asta group. Go down for a few meters and up again to the Schliverai Spitz 2432mt, distinguished by an rustic wood cross; from here the final strech of the ring is downhill.
Following the large ridge, after about 45 minutes, you arrive at the crossroads with path 340 which in about 20 minutes leads to the former Tonini Hut. Unfortunately the hut is not accessible as it was destroyed by a fire in December 2016. From here, with path n ° 443 we head towards the Campivel pass and then shortly to Malga Stramaiolo, where during the summer it is possible taste the delights of typical cuisine. With another 15 minutes you arrive at the starting point; returning to the car, looking up, it is impossible not to notice the beauty of the tour just done.

required equipment

Even on relatively short easy outings make sure to take all you need so you don't run into trouble if things take an unexpected turn, for example a storm blows up or you have a sudden drop in energy levels. What you should have in your rucksack:   water canteen (1L) snacks (e.g. mixed dried fruit or chocolate) First aid kit windproof jacket fleece change of t-shirt and socks (in a plastic bag) make sure to wear or at least bring a pair of long trousers hat sun screen sunglasses gloves whistle to attract attention in an emergency emergency telephone number Mountain Rescue 112   Make sure you're wearing the right footwear for the trail and season. The trail can get rough and rocky underfoot and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains. And finally... don't forget to bring your camera! You'll need it to capture the stunning views.

Tips for the tour

Along the proposed tour are to be found some interesting points: Polpen pass, Rujoch top and ex mounatin hut Tonini.   For a gastronomic stop, we recommend Malga Stramaiolo, open in summer with typical cuisine.
