The area is very important from a naturalistic point of view since there are three grass hollows that once where lake basins formed by the glaciers.
Thanks to this humid area, in the surroundings can be found biological species and vegetational conglomerates extremely rare for the southern side of the Alpine chain.
The biotope’s fauna is rich in species typical for humid environments and mixed-conifer woods: reptiles like the innocuous grass snake, amphibian like the Alpine newt and the fire salamander, mammals and birds that, living in the woods find source of food and suitable nesting sites.

The biotope can be visited walking on a 2.3 km path that crosses the whole natural reserve. Along the way there are some information tables, that illustrate the most important characteristics of the protected area and its surroundings.
