Gentle slopes, bright red vines, picturesque apple orchards and historic farms shine under the warm rays of the sun: Accompany us to the idyllic village of Terlan.

Welcome to Terlan on the Wine Route, a small but historic village in the picturesque Adige Valley. The oldest traces of historical settlements lead us back to the Neolithic period until 2,000 years B. C. and reached their climax in the Middle Ages, when Terlan was the seat of the Neuhaus court. The great prosperity came to the flourishing community in the 16th century through the silver mine of Terlano. This is still reflected today in some splendid, frescoed buildings such as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary - a Gothic parish church built around 1400 with a 75m high tower that not only attracts attention in the village centre, but can also be viewed from afar. Let your gaze wander a little further up and discover the imposing ruins of Neuhaus Castle (also known as the Maultasch ruin), which - as one would expect - often served as a residence for the Princess Margarethe von Tirol-Görz, Countess and Duchess of Carinthia. Once here, you can enjoy the wonderful panorama that stretches from Überetsch to Merano!

The smaller neighbouring villages of Vilpian and Siebeneich also belong to the Terlan municipality. While the first one with one of the oldest churches in Tyrol dedicated to St. Joseph, the St. Josef Church, awaits you, above Siebeneich there is the castle ruin Greifenstein (also called Sausch Castle).

Gourmets and lovers of good cuisine should come to Terlan in Easter, just in time for the asparagus season. In April and May, the place transforms itself into a paradise for connoisseurs and, during the traditional asparagus weeks, conjures up delicious dishes such as the aromatic asparagus risotto or the tasty asparagus strudel from the white "Margarete asparagus". To enjoy the asparagus of Terlano, it is served with the "Bozner sauce" invented in Terlan and the "asparagus wine", the Terlaner Sauvignon. For it is not only asparagus that has a rich tradition here: Terlan has been known for more than 2,000 years as a wine region in which the Terlaner Weißburgunder and the Cuvée Terlaner, whose vines grow peacefully on the slopes of the Tschöggelberg, are at home.

Around the idyllic village there is a rich selection of various leisure activities: While numerous hiking trails lead you along the vineyards through the beautiful landscape, the field roads in the middle of the apple plantations are ideal for extensive cycling tours or walks in the valley. Great and small climbing enthusiasts can let off steam in the high ropes course and on hot summer days the Terlaner swimming pool awaits you for a jump into the cool water. In the nearby Vilpian you can also admire the beautiful waterfall of Vilpiano at close range. In winter you can also use the many hiking trails in winter and snowshoe hikes through the enchanting white snowy landscape.
