About Hafling

A magnificent picture surrounds the village of Hafling. Wide meadows on which the charming Haflinger horses graze, a dense shady coniferous forest and the huge Ifinger mountain, which rises up behind the village.

The idyllic village of Hafling is situated high above the Merano valley basin, on the sunny high plateau of the Tschöggelberg. It is a small community made up of the settlements of St. Kathrein, Falzeben, Hafling upper village and Hafling village. The latter forms the main village and awaits its visitors with the characteristic small medieval church of St. Kathrein. Built in the 13th century, the chapel overlooks the valley, surrounded by old rural hamlets and picturesque meadows. From here you can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the peaks of the Texel Group and the Isinger Berg.

The village is especially famous for its animal inhabitants - the Haflinger. The breeding of Haflinger horses goes back to the 19th century: Due to the numerous winding paths running along the Tschöggelberg, it was previously only possible to reach this place on foot or by horse, and the inhabitants were thus dependent on sturdy carrying and working animals that helped them during transport. Nowadays blonde horses are very popular with riders, especially because of their gentle temperament.

In addition to horseback riding, Hafling offers numerous other sporting activities: From extensive and comfortable walks through shady forests and the unique hilly landscape, to relaxing at the Sulfner lake covered with water lilies, to adventurous tours and fast-paced rides on the summer toboggan run in the wonderful hiking and skiing area of Merano 2000, to ski trips and fun toboggan runs in the winter with its snow-covered countryside and fun tobogganing parades.
