Concert by Zupforchester Tennenlohe and Euterpe Mandolin Orchestra

About the event

Concert as part of the twinning between the cities of Bolzano and Erlangen

The ensemble was founded in 1981 under the direction of Bernhard Scheidel, evolving from a long-standing guitar quartet and a parent-child group he had established. In 1985, his daughter Julia took over this role. Since 1991, Winfried Hübner has led the musical activities of the Tennenlohe Zupforchester. Some musicians from the early days are still active today. From the very beginning, we musicians have been united by the joy of making music together. And that is exactly what we want to convey to all musicians who wish to join the orchestra—and who are warmly welcomed. It has always been a tradition of the plucked string orchestra to perform together with other ensembles: with orchestras from Luxembourg, Darmstadt, Jena, Schweinfurt, or Munich, with a klezmer band, or with choirs and soloists. Our repertoire ranges from ABBA to U2, from Baroque music to contemporary works.

The Mandolin Orchestra “Euterpe” was founded in 1947 thanks to the efforts of Giovanni Ferrari and with the collaboration of several mandolin enthusiasts. It is the only plucked-string orchestra in the European region of Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino and has held over 700 concerts. Today, the “Euterpe” Mandolin Orchestra consists of approximately 15 mandolin and guitar players. Through the association’s activities, the aim is to continue and enhance this musical tradition. In October 2004, the “Mandolin and Guitar School” was successfully launched with the goal of expanding the number of orchestra members in the future. The orchestra has been led by Ugo Orrigo since 2005.
