About the event
The Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen presents a new production of the beloved operetta "At the White Horse Inn" ("Im weißen Rössl"), a co-production with the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento and the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, in collaboration with the Bürgerkapelle Gries brass band and the "Flat Caps" choir.
The operetta in three acts is freely adapted from the comedy by Oskar Blumenthal and Gustav Kadelburg, with a libretto by Hans Müller and Erik Charell, song lyrics by Robert Gilbert, and music by Ralph Benatzky, enriched by six musical interludes composed by Robert Gilbert, Bruno Granichstaedten and Robert Stolz. Evening performances are accompanied by Italian surtitles.
Set on the shores of the picturesque Wolfgangsee, the famous White Horse Inn is the stage for a whirlwind of emotions and misunderstandings. Head waiter Leopold is secretly in love with his boss, the innkeeper Josepha – who only has eyes for regular guest Dr. Siedler. He, however, is drawn to Ottilie, daughter of the grumpy industrialist Giesecke, who has been feuding for years with his rival Sigismund Sülzheimer. Into this tangle step the charming Karlchen, who turns Sigismund's head, and the young Piccolo, a quiet matchmaker with a gift for bringing hearts together. When word spreads that Emperor Franz Joseph I himself is about to pay a visit, the chaos reaches its glorious peak.
Austrian actress and director Ruth Brauer-Kvam brings this effervescent operetta to the stage with wit, elegance and warmth.
All performances take place in the Main Hall of the Stadttheater Bozen. A schools' matinee is scheduled for 20 May 2026 at 10:00 am.
