Klobenstein is situated in a sunny position on the Rittner Hochplateau and is a real hiking paradise in summer as well as in winter.

Klobenstein, the capital of the municipality of Ritten, lies in a wonderful location at an altitude of around 1,150 metres. The village is located on the plateau of the Rittens, an extensive mountain ridge between the Sarntal and the Valle Isarco valley in the south-east of the Sarntal Alps.

Sigmund Freud, who wrote his famous work "Totem and Taboo" on the sunny high plateau, already appreciated the beauty of this region. Franz Kafka also spent his holidays here at the beginning of the 20th century.

The village centre of Klobenstein presents itself invitingly: in the 17th century the church of St. Anthony was built here. At the same time, the summer resorts of the Bolzano aristocrats were built in Klobenstein as well as in Oberbozen and Maria Himmelfahrt.

In the middle of an almost untouched natural landscape, active holidaymakers can really let off steam by mountainbike or on foot and explore the surroundings. Numerous hiking trails lead through pine and larch forests over the well-known plateau. The earth pyramids of Rittner, a well-known natural monument near Lengmoos, are definitely worth seeing. Speed skaters also appreciate the Rittner Hochplateau. Right at the entrance of Klobenstein is the sports zone with football field and several tennis courts. It is also home to the ice ring, the Arena Ritten, where various sporting events such as speed skating competitions and other international races are held. On the ski slopes of the Rittner Horn you can enjoy wonderful days outdoors.
