Alta Via nr. 2 - Pale di San Martino (stage 4) - Description

Forth stage of the tour on the Pale di San Martino, from Rifugio Pradidali to Rifugio Treviso.

Directions

  • Start

    Rifugio Pradidali

From Rifugio Pradidali, follow directions to Passo delle Lede-Bivacco C. Minazio and go to North-East on path n.709, at first coasting a small lake, then going up the gravel underneath the peak of the lake, all the way to the crossroad with path n. 711 on the right. Shortly after the crossroad climb on a small rock wall with fixed wires, which requires the use of climbing equipment. Above, the path continues on some rocky steps – there are chances of finding snow also in the beginning of the season, so pay attention while reaching the 2695 m. of the Lede Pass. From the Pass, a steep rocky canal, going downhill, introduces to the to the wild Valon delle Lede. The path towards the C. Minazio Bivacco (bivacco = camp) is interesting because not only it offers the view of the great oriental face of the Canali Peak and the Wilma Peak, but also, with a good eye, you can spot some remains of the american airplane that crashed on the southern wall of the Fradusta, in the beginning of the 50's. From the Bivacco Minanzio continue the long descend to the bottom of the Canal Valley (at the crossroad take the first left) and then go uphill through a series of turns of the 707 path, reach the romantic Rifugio Canali-Treviso.
