Directions

  • Start

    San Lorenzo in Banale

Val d’Ambiéz is a deep narrow valley formed by fluvial erosion and flanked by rock walls. After the gorge, the valley suddenly opens onto the vast pastures revealing views of Rigugio Cacciatore (1821m) from where you can admire the majestic scenery of the Brenta Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can reach Rifugio Cacciatore from Località Baesa, 3 Km from San Lorenzo in Banale, following the SAT 325 path in about 2 ½ hours. Alternatively, there is a 4x4 taxi service, available via a booking system, also from San Lorenzo in Banale. The path, signposted SAT 325, continues to reach Rifugio Silvio Agostini (2410m) zig-zagging through a rocky fossiliferous area, known as the “fossils graveyard”, where you can encounter traces of organisms which lived 195 million years ago. The view is simply spectacular spanning across Cima D’Agola, Cima Ambiéz & Cima Tosa. Make your way back via the SAT 351B path or by 4x4 taxi from Rifugio Cacciatore.
