About the Val Venosta

Let yourself be enchanted by the splendid cultural landscape of the Vinschgau Valley and embark on a journey through the wonderful panoramas and the delicious specialties of local cuisine, in the footsteps of culture - from antiquity to the present day.

A hearty fresh wind, extensive landscapes and fairytale lakes welcome you in one of the most beautiful valleys in South Tyrol - the Vinschgau. A region that is characterized by its peculiarities, because of alpine landscapes along the shady slopes of the Nörderberg, their appearance changes abruptly to the warm and dry climate of the Sonnenberg. Here is a completely different, steppe-like landscape to light, which promotes the occurrence of plants such as beard grass, sea buckthorn and juniper.
The region owes its reputation as a valley of culinary delights to this abundance of sunshine and the traditional cultivation of wine, fruit and vegetables - from delicious apple varieties and berries to chestnuts, the variety of the cultivation extends. However, the notorious Vinschger Apricots, the Palabirne, the Kastelbeller Asparagus and the highly decorated wines such as the delicate Pinot Noir and the fruity Fraueler are particularly well-known.

The Vinschgau also has a lot to offer culturally and points to numerous traces of ancient cultures such as those of the Celts, Romans and Romans, who in the course of time made the Vinschgau an important connection route for trade (especially for the Laas marble). If you follow in the footsteps of these cultures, you will come across the Roman hand route Via Claudia Augusta, to numerous sights such as the Carolingian Benedictine monastery of St. Johann im Münstertal, the Churburg in Schluderns, Castle Goldrain, Marienberg (the highest abbey in Europe) the Trutzburg Kastellbell or the completely preserved medieval city walls of Glurns. Especially attractive in Reschen am See is the visible church tower of a Romanesque church in Reschensee.

To illustrate tradition in the interplay with today's life, the Mountain Museum in Solda and the Museum at Juval Castle await you.

But that's not all, because around the Texel Group, the Ötztaler and the Ortler Alps, the Vinschgau with its beautiful landscape is also a paradise for a variety of leisure activities: countless, varied hikes through mountain and valley, climbing tours, fast-paced mountain bike trails and adventurous activities such as rafting, Paragliding and even windsurfing encourage entertaining activities in summer. In winter, on the other hand, the enchanted landscape and the ski areas invite you to ski and snowboard downhill runs, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowshoe walks or ice skating.
