Welcome to Schlanders - a place in the enchanting green of untouched nature, sports and culture.
Situated between Merano and Lake Resia, the charming village of Schlanders is the capital of the beautiful Venosta Valley. The landscape, rich in picturesque vineyards and idyllic orchards, is crossed by numerous channels that transport the waters of the huge glaciers in the Schnals Valley to the agricultural fields in the valley and adorn the valley plain with indescribable meadows and green pastures. The cultivation of apples, which has always been associated with the Vinschgau, is very common here, as is the white gold, the worldwide known Vinschgau marble, which is mined in one of the highest quarries in Europe (at 2,300m).
Life pulsates in the historic old town: The pedestrian zone awaits you with its characteristic flair, shops and bars that invite you to shop and relax. In the award-winning restaurants of the elegant hotels, however, your palate will be spoiled with wonderful creations of star chefs - among them the famous South Tyrolean dumplings. Schlanders is considered the cultural centre of the Vinschgau and offers great events throughout the year at the Kulturhaus Karl Schönherr, which appeal to every taste, from theatre and concerts to film events. Another gem is the high steeple of the medieval parish church. The Gothic building consists of three naves and, adorned with impressive frescoes, it also surprises with interesting reconstructions in neo-Baroque style. Beyond the parish church, the Capuchin monastery, the small St. Nicholas Church in Vetzan and the early medieval St. Martin's Church in Covelano also stand out. The medieval Jörgenkirchl, which is situated on the hillside of Kortsch and guards the entire community, is also worth a visit.
There are also countless beautiful castles and fortresses, which give you breathtaking panoramas and the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the past: The 16th century Schlandersberg Castle or the Schlandersburg Castle, the most important Renaissance building in Vinschgau, which also houses the Public Library, will enchant you at first glance.
Sports lovers will not miss out on the numerous leisure activities either: in Schlanders you will find a sports ground with tennis, football and miniature golf courses, which also invites you to climb. Thanks to its unique landscape and artistic character, countless tourists take the opportunity to walk and tour the picturesque Stilfser Joch National Park all year round. In the latter you can see the permanent exhibition on the world of birds and discover the special local species. The sunny path above the village along the vineyards and chestnut slopes gives you a 360° view over the whole area.
