Lajen, a small village in the sign of hospitality and rural traditions.

Quietly situated on a beautiful high plateau of the Eisack valley, the municipality of Lajen with the smaller villages of Albions, Freins, Ried, Tanirz, St. Peter, Tschöfas and Pontives is situated at the entrance to the Val Gardena Valley. In an idyllic and sunny location in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites, the village offers a wonderful view of the Sassolungo, the Sella Group and the Sciliar Mountains as far as the distant glaciers of the Zillertal Alps.

The typical farms, spread over vineyards and pastures, appear like a picture book in front of the scenery of impressive peaks. It is precisely this tradition that makes this quiet place, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a popular tourist destination for all those who want to recharge their batteries and relax.

In the middle of a rocky outcrop, at the end of the village, stands the imposing "Dom am Berg" (Cathedral on the Mountain), a nineteenth-century parish church dedicated to St. Stephen and St. Laurentius, one of the largest columnless churches in South Tyrol. Not far away is the picturesque medieval church of Our Lady's Church. Also noteworthy are the many traces of ancient Neolithic settlements - most of them were found on the nearby mountain of Ausserrashoetz.

In Lajen, sporting activities are not left behind, because the passion for nature attracts all visitors to the village and lures them outdoors at any time of the year: From the beautifully blooming cherry trees in spring to the fairytale winter months that await you with the Dolomiti Superski ski carousel and the Val Gardena/Seier Alm ski area, as well as the Alta Badia and Plose ski areas. In summer you will also find numerous activities: Lajen is the ideal starting point for numerous hiking and mountain tours, as well as for leisurely walks in the valley or adventurous mountain bike tours in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park.
In autumn the area becomes a culinary paradise with gastronomic excursions and the "Törggelen", a traditional South Tyrolean custom where bacon, cabbage, meat sausages, dumplings and - not to forget - chestnuts are eaten in old taverns and good company.

But that's not all, as the small town also offers a number of activities for families. Discover the many itineraries and the old Poststeig, which leads to Ortisei.
